As this is the first film thoughts I have posted, I had better set out my colours. I am not a professional film critic (which in the UK generally means look down your nose at anything that might appeal to the normal film goer and be as negative as possible about everything). I like quality rubbish. I will watch more high brow stuff, and find it surprisingly entertaining, but will generally go for the high entertainment, Neanderthal brow great fun couple of hours. I’m also going to stay away from a film’s plot. I like going to see a film and knowing the least possible about it - better surprise then.

As you have probably guessed, Indiana Jones is right up my street. In summary, its great fun. The two hours in the cinema felt like half an hour. There was action, giggles, and some great effects. Suspend disbelief and its good. One aspect that I was surprised by and thought worked well was they had not scrubbed Harrison Ford to make Indiana Jones look young. He modeled grey hair throughout (obviously under a fedora!) Don’t worry, the grey hair has not slowed the action down, the bull whip is still in good use. Spielberg keeps a great tempo - its not a film which gets boring due to either too long a slow interlude, or so much frantic action that it becomes relentless and dull (as it no longer feels fast ’cause its all fast). Go see it - its worth a cinema trip.

“Now you see it now you don’t” instantaneous computer rebooting

Hunt the external hardware;

The search for the Wi-Fi setup, and

The Program that got stuck in the freeze.

The green grocers have provided me with an Apple. I have used it for less than a couple hours and am completely shocked and confused. I can see why Adam and Eve were tempted by an Apple, and not a double glazing salesman. Straight away I can see why the business world generally prefers to see a hazy vista of an electronic world through Windows - with an Apple the thing boots far too fast and the first coffee break of the day would have to be cancelled. Also, Windows is clearly the more ethical product: who has not heard the ranting of individuals concerned with the evil of the internet undermining society - therefore it must be right to make it as difficult as possible to connect to the internet. An Apple undermines this by simply telling you the networks available and asking if you wish to connect. Sure if the network is protected the Apple asks you to enter the password, but the Apple doesn’t even both to ask you what kind of encrpytion is being used and just works. C’mon, at least when looking for the internet through a Window society is protected from access through a complex exam. Hmmm. Maybe the right to bite an Apple should be subject to rigorous Governmental licencing?

Manchester United did well this week. Unfortunate for Chelsea to miss out on the prize due to penalties. However, the pain of John Terry is naught in comparison with Master of Hedges, a Football Manager who has been seeking glory but is yet to locate it. As the Telegraph Fantasy Football season drew to a close he was convinced of his superiority. But at the last hurdle he fell. Hard. His heart was shattered as I surged past to claim a mighty victory for the fifth year in succession. But the Master of Hedges is resilient. He shall be back next season to be treated like a football once again, and receive his next kicking. Clearly this is an incredibly important issue. Clearly.
